Stage 2 Yarwun Alumina Refinery

Yarwun 2 Refinery Expansion
The Yarwun 2 project was a $2.1-billion brownfield expansion of the Yarwun alumina refinery located in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia. The initial refinery (Comalco Alumina Refinery) commenced operation in September 2004 with a nameplate capacity of 1.4 Mtpa with the current expansion taking the refinery nameplate capacity 3.4 Mtpa.

Scope of Services
IIM delivered Stage 2 of the Yarwun Alumina Refinery expansion. This $23 million spool package consist of 14,000 isometric drawings and had a delivery schedule for mid 2011. The scope of works includes fabrication, non destructive testing, post weld heat treatment, surface protection and loading.

Project Highlights
Through continuous valued engineering IIM has attained key project milestones, fabricating up to 10,000 weld inches per week. Our strategic relationship with Onesteel Piping Systems and close proximity enabled all material requirements to be arranged in modules as required for each fabrication isometric and delivered by forklift through shared gate in adjoining fence. To date this project is running ahead of schedule.
